Things I am into right now

1. Voodoo 104.1. New radio format. Soundtrack of my life. Like it.
2. Watching Being Erica on hulu. Obsessed.
3. Joy the Baker podcast (http://homefries.com/shows/). It's ridiculous. I listen because I like her blog. She makes yummy things. The show is her talking to her friend Tracey, who also has a blog, and it is just them chatting about random stuff, mainly. It makes me think, "I could do this. With any of my friends, I could do this. But, who would want to listen to that?" And then I remember I'm listening to this, which is basically the same...anyway, I enjoy it.
4. Will Grayson, Will Grayson: loved this. If I knew some angst-filled, gay, teen boys, I would give them this book and say, "Read this, and then live your life." Then I would turn them on to the Vlog brothers(http://www.youtube.com/vlogbrothers) so they can love John Green as much as I do, and then they would be indebted to me for life. But I don't know any angst-filled, gay, teen boys. Not that it only appeals to angst-filled, gay, teen boys. I mean, I liked it.
5. New USA shows. Love the summer season.

Why I love my city

Today was a great illustration of why I love living in NOLA. The weather was beautiful (if a little on the warm side of perfect at over 80 degrees). I met Catherine and Claire at the Fete Francaise, which is a fundraiser for Ecole Bilingue. Yummy food, French music, cute little kids running around, everyone wearing Ecole Bilingue or Fete Francaise shirts and speaking French--it was such fun and a great sense of community as well. Russell met up with us and we went over to the Freret Festival on Freret St and met up with Kristen. More great food (though I had eaten too much at the French fest to partake), music, and a petting zoo, which was such fun. People were wearing Freret St shirts with the "like" button from Facebook. Then, I went over to the sculpture garden at NOMA, where all of the irises are in bloom and everything is gorgeous, and then went into the museum to see the arrangements from Art in Bloom. Came home for a bit, and then went down to Jammin on Julia, where all the art galleries were open and there were booths with food and drink in the street--and again, music. How can you beat that?

Almost April

So, what has been going on? I went to Lafayette for a conference, then went to visit my adorable goddaughter on the North Shore (and see Amanda's baby bump, which is so cute!), then we had the engagement party for Jen and Scott. I thought it went very well, and I went out after (for a little while) to represent the bridal party, because somebody's got to be able to hang! It can't just be the boys partying. So, that's the beginning of the end, in a sense. :) It'll be parties and showers and whatnot from now til the wedding, which is exciting. That Friday, we also went out to say goodbye to Rob, who is moving back to the West Coast to be with his girlfriend. I think he'll be happier out there, since he'll be with her, but I hope they come back here eventually. They are both nice people.

Last weekend, I went to the Road Food festival, and experienced no food poisoning, despite being warned. I've been continuing to do lots of dancing (including an inadvertent private lesson, essentially, this week), which does not stop being fun. Cat, Russell, Truman, Kristen and I hung out in the Marigny Saturday to soak up the good weather and then we (minus Squanch) went to go see Limitless, which was pretty good.

The first Wednesday at the Square was tonight, and I had my first snowball of the season, which was delightful. We've been having nasty weather, but that is fine as long as it gets out of the way for the weekend.

Next weekend is French Quarter Fest, so there will be dancing and music and volunteering--I'm a food tester--rock on!

Advice for the day: The only way to be happy is just to be happy. (Courtesy of a co-worker.)

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Hope you had a spiffy weekend--I did! Saturday, I went to the uptown St. Patty's Day parade with the crew, which was great fun. Kristen and I got a bunch of flowers, and I got a crown, and a stuffed monkey, cabbage, beads, etc. Look how good we looked:

It was a long parade, but we had a good time. Kristen had us over first, and her new place looks great. I made some very delicious Irish car bomb cupcakes, which everyone enjoyed. Afterwards, we went to see Red Riding Hood--oh my. The acting was supremely terrible, but it was rather entertaining for its awfulness. Sunday, I met up with Miss Katie for a pastry and beverage at Laurel St Bakery, and then went down to the Marigny for some dancing. The weather was perfect--it was just so lovely.

Unfortunately, today was a Monday. I woke up feeling not rested, due to the loss of the hour. Then work was a bit of a hassle, but I was looking forward to barre pilates, which I was supposed to be taking with Cat, but there was an accident on the bridge, and then another on the interstate, and another at my exit, so I could not make it in time, which was very annoying. I am hoping the week gets better from here!

An observation: Guys named Colin are likely to have an above-average level of attractiveness. That's all.

Hellllo again

Well, I'm one day off Facebook, so I need to do something else to fill my time, so I figured I'd do a blog post! Of course, it has been ages since I posted something, so I am sure no one reads this anymore.

Anyway, here's a recap of my day:
I woke up super early thanks to the crazy storm--lightning and immediate thunder, lots of rain, etc. When I did get up for real, it quickly became obvious that I would not be able to leave. Thanks for the flooding, Lake Ave! I did get to watch an episode of Glee before heading off to work, though.

So, I finally left home around 9--the street was still flooded, but I made it. The day was relatively quiet, and I got to have lunch with the Doll and find out about her Mardi Gras. Campbell is still stuck in Canada, though.

After work, I went down to Magazine to get my yoga on; talked to Amanda on the way, which was great because I haven't talked to her in a while. Got text gossip updates from Dan--who needs Facebook? Then, went in for yoga instead of going to church (Hi, Ash Wednesday), which was really good. Came home and ate dinner and multiple brownies.

Overall, a good day.

I really want to try Ben & Jerry's Late Night Snack flavor, but it will have to wait til Easter! Ben & Jerry's did send me a buy one get one free coupon in honor of my half birthday, which very nearly sent me into a panic. Where the heck does the time go?

Looking forward to: St. Patrick's Day, French Quarter Fest/Fleur de Lindy, Mike's wedding. Good times all around

August update

Well, it has been quite a while since I updated, so I thought I'd do a post. I've been staying fairly busy lately, but I took the day off today, so I can do whatever I want. Just to give you a taste of what things have been like, here is what happened this weekend:
Friday we did family dinner night because my brother is in town, so that was fun and loud and crazy, as usual. I went to Sean's house after to attempt to help with a computer issue. I'm still working on that one.

Saturday, I got up early and went to Bikram yoga. New teacher, who was very good. Then I ran a few errands and went over to my friend's house to meet up for White Linen Night. We rode the streetcar down and walked down to Julia Street. All of the galleries were open, and there's food and drink and music, and everyone wears white. It was fun people-watching and stuff, and we went in some of the galleries and into the children's museum, which I haven't been inside in years.

Got up early Sunday and went to my coworker Scott's. Held his new daughter Tallulah and helped get her dressed. Scott made breakfast--pain perdu with blueberry sauce, which was actually very tasty, and I am not usually a french toast fan. Scott, his brother Ross, and his friend Patrick and I had a nice meal and then we headed off to the jazz mass at St. Augustine Church, which is the oldest black Catholic congregation in New Orleans. The church is in Treme and the music was incredible. We 2nd lined from the church to the Satchmo Summer Fest. Scott's wife Marci is the executive director, so he carried one of the banners and I marched up front with him. We made the paper and the local news. Once at the festival, we ate some good food and heard some music. I met up with Joey and Russell. They had music and dance lessons going on in the Mint (which is literally an old US Mint). In addition to the standard exhibit about minting coins, they have a really odd anti-drug exhibit in there right now, which was bizarre. We got there in time for the basic lesson, but we already know that, so we bailed pretty soon and went to the D-Day museum for some dancing over there, then I came home and got ready to go back to the D-Day museum later in the evening for another swing dance at the Stage Door Canteen, so I went and met up with Catherine, Russell, and Charles. The Loose Marbles played, and there were some really good dancers there, so it was fun to watch as well as dance.

Upcoming is Maggie's Birthday, Mike's birthday, and somewhere in there wee Finn's arrival. Sarah's coming to visit me in October and Dan, Matt, Greg and I are going to Maui after Christmas. The fun doesn't stop!
